Rumor: Kobe Bryant Reached Out To Gilbert Arenas

It is impossible to know what is truly going on behind those closed doors down in El Segundo where the Lakers conduct business. We do know that the team has shown some interest in kicking the tires on free agent Gilbert Arenas. Mike Brown has said as much.

What we don’t know is exactly what the view of Arenas is within the organization. According to some reports there are differing opinions on the potential signing within the front office. Some see Gil as a necessary addition to try and add any kind of production to the offense. Others are said to see Arenas as nothing more than an unnecessary distraction.

If Kobe Bryant’s opinion matters in the discussion then Arenas could have a huge vote of confidence. According to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com KB24 has reached out to Gil to let the disgruntled guard know he’s got the Bryant seal of approval.

No telling when these two spoke but I’m guessing it was before the Lake Show fell victim to Linsanity. While Arenas wouldn’t have helped much on the defensive end, his scoring ability is something the Lakers badly need. Of course just how much of that Arenas explosiveness there is left in the tank is very much up for debate.

Supposedly the Lakers are to attend a workout Arenas will put on at some point. When last we saw Gil on an NBA court he was posting career lows in most offensive categories for the Orlando Magic. The situation didn’t end well there so the real concern is what will be different in Los Angeles?

With the way things are going the Lakers can’t afford to pass on anyone that could help contribute in any way. This team is not looking at all likely to be playing beyond the first round of the playoffs this year as things stand.
