Metta World Peace Goes Bones Jones On James Harden

You just can’t talk about the Lakers thrilling 114-106 double OT victory over OKC without talking about the elbow heard round the NBA.

Was Metta World Peace inspired from Jon Bones Jones’ performance in UFC 145 the previous night? Did James Harden just get too close to the caged animal? Will this be the moment that turns the ride for both the Lakers and Thunder?

Inquiring minds want to know just what was going on in Metta’s dome when he channeled Bones Jones and dropped an elbow on Harden that would only be legal inside a cage, never on a basketball court. Whatever it was, it got World Peace ejected, left Harden concussed and eventually inspired the Lakers to stage a 17-point fourth quarter comeback to win in two extra periods.

Not saying I’d ever encourage this type of action but it does send a clear message. Unfortunately it’s not the kind of message David Stern likes to receive. We haven’t seen or heard the last of this so why not relieve a moment that could spark a new rivalry.
