Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE
Just when Dwight Howard will make his official Lakers debut is anybody’s guess. We already know he won’t be there for the preseason opener. Beyond that it’s going to be the wait and see approach.
But seeing is believing and the sight of Howard going through drills with the coaching staff is highly encouraging. I guess…
You can’t read too much into Howard’s first bit of physical activity other than the fact that he’s been cleared for it. That is encouraging. Still, you’ve got to wonder what kind of a time table we’re looking at.
Judging by the lack of speed at which Howard moved in the now released video of his individual workout you can see that he still has a ways to go. Plus you can tell his back is still not nearly ready for certain types of motion let alone contact. Perhaps that’s why the Lakers are inviting plenty of big stiffs to camp.
I’d be very surprised if we see Howard in uniform on opening night. If for no other reason than the Lakers desire to take it slow in order to keep him healthy for what could potentially be his lone season in Los Angeles.
