Maybe Metta World Peace should stay out of the business of predicting records. If he was taking his prognostications to Vegas then the New Year would have began with Metta in a big gambling hole.

When the season began the former Ron Artest had the Lake Show pegged for a run at the best record in regular season history. That went out the window within the first month.

Now Metta is claiming his team, currently stuck at .500 with a 15-15 mark, will go on a winning tear in the New Year finishing with 62 wins on the season. That would mean the Lakers going 47-5 for the duration of the season. That would mean winning 87% of their games.

Metta’s positive thinking is refreshing and in all honesty that’s about the only way the Lakers can put the wretched end to 2012 in the rearview. That said. It’s a near impossible task.

For a team that can’t even get above .500 flipping a switch and morphing into an unstoppable hoops juggernaut would be the stuff of legend. But, hey, if the Lakers are going to turn this thing around in order to accomplish their ultimate goals then it will take a miraculous reversal. Whether or not it’s a 47-5 clip that equates the dramatic turn remains to be seen. If Metta’s previous predictions are any indication then I’d advise against taking this one to the sports book.
