If the Lakers are going to make their much anticipated stand to push for the playoffs then it’s going to be an all hands on deck type of situation. That’s why the potential return of Pau Gasol for tomorrow night’s contest against the Miami Heat could be critical.
Though the Spaniard has largely been lost in the Lakers coaching shuffle there is no denying the team is better with his presence alone, never mind what appears next to his name in the box score. The stats will reflect that.
Of course Gasol still has yet to be cleared to return to action having missed the last five games due to the lingering affects of a concussion. Today Pau was at least able to participate in 3-on-3 drills in practice as he eases back into the swing of things.
Still, Gasol will have to undergo another evaluation by the neurologist tomorrow before any decision can be made on his status for the game. The season is nearing its halfway mark and at this point the Lakers just need wins. A win over a quality opponent would be a great start as it not only would extend their streak to three straight but would also establish that they can indeed compete with the elite.
