Dwight Howard touched down in Houston today for the 2013 NBA All-Star game and all the weekend long festivities celebrating the greatest hoops league in the world. Howard along with teammate Kobe Bryant will be starting for the West while representing the conundrum that is this lost season for the Los Angeles Lakers.
That the Lake Show boasts of two All-Stars in the starting five yet sits 10th in West about says all you need to know of this Mike D’Antoni debacle.
Of course the real irony is that Houston was one of the many places of employment in which Howard could have found himself this season come off the now infamous known Dwightmare of 2012.
One year later and Howard isn’t too troubled over where he’ll be for the rest of the season having been assured by the Lakers he’ll still be in Purple and Gold. Of course what happens after this season is what’s keeping the sequel, Dwightmare 2, alive and well.
During today’s media session Howard was probed for answers on his future which he naturally deflected. All year long Howard has been unwilling to say whether or not he’s committed to the Lakers beyond his first year in Los Angeles. That’s pretty much in step with what he was saying one year ago at this time when he was a member of the Orlando Magic.
"“I should have the opportunity to make my own decision. I shouldn’t be pressured or criticized for waiting till the end of the year. It’s not fair to the fans, or the team. I’m not gonna deal with it. I had to deal with it all last year. I got to do what makes me happy. That’s it.”"
Sounds like the same indifferent and indecisive babble D12 was spitting in 2012. Howard is obviously unhappy with this season and perhaps is equally unhappy being a Laker. He certainly seems like a beaten man in interviews problem is he’s the one bringing a lot of this upon himself.
Until Howard sees the big picture and realizes a firm stance one way or the other will quiet much of this speculation he’s forever doomed to answer the same questions over and over again. If he thought the weekend getaway was going to change that he’s wrong as today was further proof that the Dwightmare is still going strong.
