Rockets Trying to Lure Howard Away From L.A.

It has been reported by Adrian Wojnarowski  (otherwise known as a “Woj bomb”) from Yahoo! Sports that the Houston Rockets are looking to unload Thomas Robinson to free up some cap space to help them in their quest to sign Dwight Howard.

It has been known league-wide that the Houston Rockets have been looking to acquire a big name free agent to pair with James Harden — Paul Millsap and Josh Smith are among those players. The Rockets are going to have plenty of cap space, and if they unload Robinson’s contract, they will have enough cap space to offer two max deals. If the Rockets are able to lure Howard away from L.A. and sign either Paul Millsap or Josh Smith, that’s a dangerous team. Not only will the Lakers be scared of that team, but the rest of the league will be, as well.

I still believe the Lakers are going to sign Howard; they can offer him more money, a longer contract, and a bigger market. Add in that Howard will be the leader of the team once Kobe retires, and I think Howard likes Los Angeles better. Dwight likes the attention as we’ve seen through all of the drama he has created — Hollywood is the perfect place if he wants attention. Yes, Mike D’Antoni is still the head coach of the Lakers, but as we saw in the second half of the season, D’Antoni seemed to learn his personnel. That could be key.

As I wrote about a week ago, the Dwight Howard saga has just begun. I have a feeling I will have plenty of words for everyone to read throughout the summer about possible landing spots for Howard. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
