Brian Shaw was once thought of as the coach-in-waiting to Phil Jackson just a few years ago. Following Jackson’s retirement, Shaw would not receive the Lakers head coaching gig, moving on as an assistant with the Indiana Pacers.
On Monday, he finally got that gig.
Shaw interviewed with multiple teams this off-season, including the Clippers, Nuggets, and Nets. He was rumored to nearly every team with a head coaching vacancy.
Right now, it’s uncertain if Shaw will use the triangle offense he mastered under Phil Jackson. It’s also uncertain who will bring onto his staff, which will be a big sign of the schemes he’ll intend to run. Nevertheless, Shaw is a well-deserved candidate and has had this a long time coming.
