Alvin Gentry was a highly sought after assistant for the Lakers and Mike D’Antoni, given their history in Phoenix. However, on Wednesday, Gentry chose to join the Clippers and Doc Rivers as the associate head coach.

D’Antoni was only offering an assistant role with the Lakers, which was the deciding factor according to Ramona Shelburne, ESPNLA writer.
The Lakers may now focus on Nate McMillan, who coached the Trailblazers most recently. McMillan and D’Antoni have history together on Team USA.
