And to think, it’s been just 17 years.
On this day in 1996, the Hornets (on behalf of the Lakers) selected Kobe Bean Bryant before trading him to the Lakers for Vlade Divac. At the time, the 17-year old Kobe Bryant was seen as a very raw talent with lots of potential. And boy did he meet that potential.
Bryant has been apart of two separate Lakers title runs, the first with Shaq in the early 2000s, the second with Pau Gasol in the late 2000s. In between the two runs, he got himself a MVP award, scored 81 points, and won a scoring title.
Lakers fans have been spoiled by Bryant throughout his career, but as his career winds down, fans should take a step back and realize his greatness.
