Mamba in the Morning: Summer league tourney set

The Lakers summer league team finished their “regular season” at 2-1, good enough for the #8 seed out of the 22 teams participating. As a result, the Lakers will be taking on the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1st round of the playoffs, with the winner likely to meet the #1 seed Golden State Warriors.

The on again, off again story of whether Kurt Rambis will be joining the Lakers coaching staff appears to be on again. Ramona Shelburne reports that Rambis will “be in the fold for the Lakers” within a couple days.

And lastly, in news Lakers fans already knew, ESPN has reported that the Lakers will pursue LeBron and Melo next summer in free agency. Welcome to the party, ESPN.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

The Miami Heat, after vowing not to, used their amnesty provision on Mike Miller yesterday. Miller, who was set to make $6.5 million next year, will save the Heat $15 million in luxury tax fees by being waived. And no, the Lakers aren’t interested.

Of the top 10 single-season scoring per game leaders all-time, only two, Rick Barry and Michael Jordan, did not play for the Lakers. The others in the top 10 were Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
