The Lakers, in an effort to find personnel more akin to Mike D’Antoni’s offense, have looked for athletic wing players, shooters, and stretch fours. They’ve found the first two this summer, bringing in the likes of Wes Johnson, Nick Young, and Jordan Farmar. They’re making an effort at the stretch four now, as they’ve invited Shawne Williams to training camp
While his outside range is a bit hit and miss, Williams brings athleticism and a jump shot to a team that didn’t have much of either last season. For his career, Williams is just a 33.5% three-point shooter, but 40.1% in 2010-11 on 212 attempts.
The Lakers will likely bring in a lot of low risk, high reward players to training camp, as well as young players. At just 25 years old, Williams fits both molds and will have a shot at making the Lakers squad in October.
