It would be a wacky night in L.A. without a wacky trade rumor. This one involves everyone’s favorite train wreck this year, the New York Knicks. Their dissatisfaction with guard Iman Shumpert has him squarely on the trading block, and according to Chris Broussard, the Lakers have called to inquire about him.
"No trade is imminent, and sources say the Lakers’ call was more about doing their due diligence; it’s well-known Shumpert is available."
With a backcourt full of injuries, namely the point guard spot, the Lakers could be looking to make some moves. However, going after Shumpert does not fix their lack of point guards. Even then, his talent is unmistakeable and the Lakers certainly could be look to add young talent. With a host of expiring contracts, none bigger than Pau Gasol’s $19 million, the Lakers are reportedly interested in othe Knicks.
"Sources say the Lakers are also interested in another Knicks player — center Tyson Chandler. The Lakers did not inquire about Chandler when they called about Shumpert, but they are weighing whether to propose a Pau Gasol-for-Chandler trade, according to sources."
Broussard goes on to say that one of the only ways the Lakers could get someone like Chandler, they would need to take on J.R. Smith’s contract, which is an immediate deal breaker.
