In reality, this trade makes little sense for either side. The Raptors have positioned themselves in the fourth spot in the depleted Eastern conference. However, GM Masai Ujiri has expressed interest in freeing up cap space heading into this summer. From that standpoint alone, this trade makes sense.
In order to get Lowry, and more importantly his bird rights, LA would have to take on multiple bad contracts in Landry Fields and Steve Novak. Lowry is one of the best young point guards in the league and if the Lakers valued him high enough, this trade could be worth it.
CHANCE OF TRADE HAPPENING: 5%. This trade made sense when Toronto was thought to be having a fire sale. Now, it’d be hard to believe them giving up on a season that seems them in the top four in the East.
