BREAKING: Mike D’Antoni Resigns As Lakers Head Coach

This isn’t a dream Lakers fans. Mike D’Antoni really is gone. And no, LA didn’t even need fire him. On Wednesday afternoon/early evening, D’Antoni resigned as Lakers head coach.

The direct statement from the Lakers website reads as such:

"Mike D’Antoni has resigned as Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, it was announced today by Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Although no timetable has been established, the search for a replacement will begin immediately."

The likes of Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis, George Karl, Jerry Sloan, and even Steve Kerr all are expected to be mentioned as possible replacements.

D’Antoni spent two seasons with the Lakers, both riddled with injuries. His first season was abbreviated as he was given a late start and a mix-match of players to his play style. With the departure of Dwight Howard this summer, the Lakers featured a depleted cast that was further dried out by injuries.

D’Antoni reportedly agreed to take a portion of the remaining amount due to him.
