3. Joel Embiid – Embiid is a center who would be ranked #1 on this draft list if injuries weren’t a concern. Simply put, he has remarkable nimbleness and footwork not expected of centers. He has elite size by position and the willingness to work on both ends of the floor. While he may be considered a project as well, his raw skills can make him an effective contributor during his rookie campaign. Injuries of centers are always a question mark. Whether it’s the back injuries or knee injuries, teams want to be able to draft not only in terms of potential, but getting value from their draft pick as well. Still, his upside is so great, teams may slot him higher and disregard the injuries. With a proper training staff behind him, the injuries may be long forgotten.
4. Dante Exum – The name Dante Exum is attached to words such as “intriguing” and “mystery.” Simply put, he’s a dynamic, triple-threat combo guard who wants to play point guard at the NBA level. His size and lateral agility times show he has strong defensive potential. He is baby-faced and still 18 years old, but his upside is high, because he has elite length and advanced skills by age. The intrigue alone may be too much to pass up for some general managers. But, if he’s groomed in the right system and has time to develop, he may just end up Penny Hardaway Version 2.0. That’s not so bad.
