Lakers to Workout James Nunnally

It seems the Lakers are the most active team in regards to player workouts.

James Nunnally is California-native wing player.  The former UC Santa Barbera Gaucho is known primarily for his perimeter shooting stroke.

Keith Schlosser (@KeithBSchlosser) of Ridiculousupside.com noted his tremendous improvement over the past year.

"But in the weeks and months in between his gigs in The Association, Nunnally continued to steal the show in the minor league. In 35 D-League games, he averaged 18.1 points (on 47% from the field and 41% from deep), 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1 steal. All of such marks represent vast improvements from the 23 year old’s rookie campaign."

There’s a similarity in his talent to Ronald “Flip” Murray.  While Flip Murray was a 6’3″ guard known for knocking down midrange shots, Nunnally is more comfortable out to the three-point line.  Both players are smooth athletes. Neither is really known for their  ability to finish in the paint with authority.  The perimeter game is what they excel at best.

James Nunnally shot 15 of 24 from the field for the Bakersfield Jam.

The search for another small forward or point guard doesn’t seem to end.  Michael Beasley was given a second workout.  Point guards Julyan Stone and Bobby Brown were given more recent workouts.  Keith Appling is already signed as a training camp invite.  James Nunnally is a role player who can flat-out shoot the ball.  Beasley is a dynamic scorer but comes with some headaches.  Julyan Stone is a big point guard known for defensive ability. Bobby Brown is known for his quickness and scoring bursts.  Keith Appling, like Bobby Brown, is known for his quickness and forays to the hoop.

The Lakers may just be looking for training camp invites.  With Jordan Clarkson signed onto the team, there may be just one roster spot available.  The first thirteen spots for the Lakers are already taken on the active list.

Do you think the Lakers need another shooter?  Should James Nunnally be given a shot into the regular season considering his improvement from last season.
