Nick Young sprains thumb during practice, sent for MRI
By Jacob Rude
The hits keep on coming for the Lakers. After Ryan Kelly suffered an injury in the first practice and Xavier Henry has yet to start, Nick Young became the latest victim on the Lakers three-year long injury bug. While going for a steal against Kobe Bryant, Young sprained his thumb and was later sent for an MRI.
The results for Young’s MRI won’t be known until either later today or early next week, but the collective breath of Lakers Nation is being held.
After a breakout season last year and his subsequent reward with a long-term contract, many expected a bigger output from Swaggy P this season. On top of that, he’s likely going to be looked upon as the Lakers second leading scorer and one of their better play makers judging on last year’s performance. Suffering any kind of setback this early in the season nearly always derails the season altogether, which would not be ideal for Young.
Hopefully this is not a precursor to yet another injury-riddled season. Like them or hate them, arguably no team in the league has suffered more from injuries over the last two seasons like the Lakers have.
