Young is still expected to be out until December after suffering an injury to his thumb during practice while guarding Kobe Bryant. All signs, however, point to his recovery remaining right on schedule.
The closer he can get to practicing on the court, the better for the Lakers, who will have only 10 healthy bodies for Tuesday’s opening night game against Houston. Aside from needing bodies period, the Lakers could desperately use the scoring Young would bring. Too often, the Lakers offense struggles to score, and Swaggy succeeds in just that.
Coming off a breakout season and a handsome reward in the off-season, the expectations were (and remain) high for Swaggy P. His 17.9 points per game led the Lakers last year. More importantly, he was the leader of the depleted Lakers that often were without Steve Nash and Bryant
This injury is a setback, but considering the Lakers signed Young to a four-year deal, the Lakers are hoping for long terms gains. After a season sans Bryant, fans are excited as ever to see the duo on the court together.
