Los Angeles Lakers: Phil Jackson defends Kobe Bryant

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant came under fire following Tuesday’s loss to Phoenix due to the high volume of shots he took, scoring 39 points on 37 shots.

Despite no longer being affiliated with the Lakers franchise, New York Knicks President and former Lakers head coach Phil Jackson came to Bryant’s aid on Twitter.

Jackson certainly makes a good point in regards to Bryant, who has an amazing ability to create a shot for himself and bury the most difficult looking jumpers.

Never the efficient player, Bryant has come under the gun after the Lakers 0-5 start considering he’s attempted more than double the amount of shots than the next closest player.

Some of this can be attributed to a lackluster offense, but it can also attributed to poor play from his teammates. Carlos Boozer has proven why the Chicago Bulls amnestied him, Wesley Johnson is showing why he can only earn the veterans minimum, and Jeremy Lin is too inconsistent to be counted on.

For Bryant, though, it doesn’t get better than a 13-time champion having your back. Clearly, Bryant and Jackson maintain a special bond after the five titles won together.

Do you think Kobe Bryant is to blame for the Lakers 0-5 start?
