UPDATE:
Other sources are now reporting that while Dwight Buycks is working on joining an NBA team, it is not the Lakers he is negotiation with.
The Los Angeles Lakers are in need of upgrades all across the court and may be getting one with the possible signing of Dwight Buycks. Playing overseas in Europe, Buycks has reached a buyout with this team and has begun negotiations with the Lakers and Thunder.
Buycks played last season with the Toronto Raptors, appearing in just 14 games and managing just 3.1 points per contest. However, in the D-League, he managed a more compelling 15.4 points and 3.5 assists on 48% FG shooting in 8 games with the Bakersfield Jam.
While overseas, Buckys put up stats closer to those of his time in the D-League than his NBA stats:
"Buycks was a young star in the European League where he averaged 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists in three games, but the 25-year-old wanted to explore an NBA deal and become available on the free agent market."
As is, the Lakers roster is full. However, Ronnie Price and Wayne Ellington both could be on the chopping block. Although the Lakers will have disabled player exceptions for both Steve Nash and Julius Randle, it’s unlikely that either exception will be granted within the upcoming weeks, meaning they won’t be using it on Buycks, most likely.
