The Lakers will reportedly have two players come in later this week to work out in separate, unrelated workouts.
First, the team is expected to bring in Quincy Miller to work out. The small forward has been rumored for many weeks to be a target of the Lakers.
"Free agent forward Quincy Miller plans to visit the Lakers in Los Angeles later this week for a workout and an opportunity to sign, league sources told RealGM on Tuesday.Miller is still scheduling the logistics of his workout date, but his visit is expected to take place later in the week."
The workout could be just a formality leading up to the Lakers using their Disabled Player Exception granted to them earlier this week on the former Baylor Bear.
For the Lakers to sign Miller, or any other free agent for that matter, they would have to cut one player for the free agent to replace.
In more surprising and a little bizarre news, the Lakers are also planning on bringing in former second round draft pick Ater Majok for a workout.
The Lakers drafted Majok during a time they were still competitive for a title. Majok was thought to be a prospect the Lakers could keep overseas and never have to pay. While that has been true to this point, they may be giving themselves due diligence in seeing if Majok has anything to offer at this point.
"Majok has played professionally in Slovakian, Belarusian, German and Korean leagues since his draft selection in 2011 to Los Angeles. The 6-foot-11 Majok played for the Lakers’ summer league team in 2012, averaging 1.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. The Lakers plan to get a thorough look into Majok’s game before any decision on whether to sign him to a rookie-scale deal."
Considering that there has been next to zero news on Ater Majok’s production since the Lakers have drafted him, don’t expect much from this workout. It feels more like a workout where the Lakers are giving him one last go more than anything.
