After another drumming at the hands of the talented Golden State Warriors, Lakers’ guard Jeremy Lin brought attention to what he thinks are the most problematic issues concerning this Lakers squad.
“There’s so many things wrong right now. At the top of the list, I would say communication, trust and effort.”
A lack of communication, trust, and effort shouldn’t come as a shock for a team with a 1-9 record. However, trust issues aren’t something that is easily fixed. Coach Byron Scott vocalized his frustrations after getting embarrassed at Staples Center once again, however, even though Lakers’ fans are insisting for a lineup change immediately, this may not necessarily fix any trust issues the team has. Although there is clearly a lack of team chemistry, more lineup changes will unfortunately force guys to adjust towards different styles of play. For example, even LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love are having some trouble adjusting to one another.
The Lakers are not as talented as those three guys, but you have to remember that the majority of these players haven’t been playing with one another for more than a handful of games. Although the frustration is almost through the roof at this point, we’re only ten games into the season, so some more time together as a unit will do them some good in the long run.
On the flipside of this is the team is so horrendous change might be a good thing. It would be nice to see a guys like Ed Davis and Jordan Clarkson get more minutes in order to see how far their development progresses this year.
That being said, the Lakers aren’t going to be playing for anything with paramount importance no matter how many personnel changes they make at this point in the season, so let’s give a little more time to see if Scott’s initial plans bare any fruit. This additional time together might be the answer to solving the trust issues the team is having—no matter how unbearable it is to watch.
