Lakers: Lose to the Grizzlies, 99-93 (videos)

Although the Lakers had a five point lead at halftime, it was slowly dwindled away by the Memphis Grizzlies.  Kobe Bryant looked to get his shot and added a couple of three-point shots, finishing with ten points in the quarter.  Lin didn’t maintain as much aggression in the first half.  It was as if Kobe and Lin traded halves for scoring.

The Grizzlies, on the other hand, chipped away at the lead.  A couple of made three-pointers hacked the lead down, while Marc Gasol carried that momentum all the way until the end of the third quarter.  He finished with twelve points in the quarter.

The Lakers were getting killed in the painted area, with the Grizzlies holding a 12 point advantage early in the third.  Despite the Lakers making a great percentage of their threes, carrying seven makes into the fourth quarter, they were down 80-74; an eleven-point turnaround by Memphis.

Once the Grizzlies took the lead, they never looked back.  The Lakers made a quick, early run at the beginning of the fourth quarter sparked by Ronnie Price.  That cut the lead down to two points.  But, within the fourth quarter, both teams had serious field goal droughts.  Both teams traded points.  Nick Young was fouled on a three-point shot to cut the lead down to four late in the game, but poor offensive execution, a cheap foul by Jeremy Lin, no defensive stops, and a terrible, late offensive possession in the fourth, ultimately cost the Lakers the game.

Although it was a good fight for two quarters, the Lakers couldn’t handle the stagnant scoring in the second half.

Kobe Bryant led the way with 22 points on 5 of 15 from the field.  Jeremy Lin was quiet during the second half, and finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Nick Young finished with 13 points on 4 of 14 shooting.
