Kobe Bryant is the first player with over 30,000 points and 6,000 assists for his career. That record can be summed up in a few tweets.
Wesley Johnson hit a baseline jumper for the record. There hasn’t been an assist record of such magnitude since Magic Johnson took the record for leading the league in career assists back in the early 1990’s. They tried to set James Worthy up for that assist record, but Terry Teagle nailed a 20′ jumper to take it.
There’s a long list of highlight plays from Bryant, both with the flashy passes and the filthy fadeaways. But to do it all for as long as he did at the level he did is borderline unfathomable. Even tonight, Bryant surpassed this achievement en route to a triple-double of 31 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds.
Will Bryant ever stop? Is he actually a robot? An android? Could he feasibly break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record? I mean, anything seems possible at this point, and the only thing slowing down Bryant is, well, nothing. Certainly the he’ll show signs of being human sooner rather than later, but in the meantime, we’ll continue to marvel at his work on the court.
Congratulations Kobe Bryant. You’re in a league of your own.
