Lakers Rumors: Brooklyn Nets A Trade Partner?

The Los Angeles Lakers may not be trying to, but they are currently on a rather strong tanking pace. At 6-16, the Lakers are one of the worst teams in the loaded Western Conference.

Across the country, the Brooklyn Nets are 8-12 and sit in the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference, but appear to be in a sell mode. With the Lakers still looking to contend, the two sides could be trade partners.

In a chat on ESPN today, NBA writer Chad Ford talked about the possibility of the two becoming trade partners.

"The Lakers could be motivated as the only way they even land a lottery pick is if they get a Top 5 pick. They are cutting it very close. The problem of course is that the Lakers don’t have much to offer the Nets outside of cap relief and Billy King isn’t trying to do what’s best for the organization, he’s trying to save his job. Waving the white flag just speeds up the firing process. No, the Nets painted themselves into an almost impossible corner. I don’t see any easy way out."

The question posed gave the trade possibility of Kevin Garnett and Mason Plumlee for Steve Nash, Wayne Ellington, and Ed Davis. The deal would work financially, but would hardly been a move for the positive, but more likely a lateral move, swapping out expiring contracts.

The Lakers, however, have been rumored to be considering a move for Nets point guard Deron Williams, but the asking price could be quite high, more than LA might be willing to give.
