Roscoe Smith Catching Lakers’ Eye, Could Be Called Up
By Jacob Rude
The Los Angeles Lakers are in dire need of more talent this season, with Kobe Bryant lacking consistent help from his teammates. However, LA may already have the rights to the player who could make a difference this year.
Los Angeles D-Fender Roscoe Smith has caught the Lakers eye and may be the player they look upon to sign.
"The Lakers have been deliberate in deciding which wing player to sign onto the roster, continuing to closely monitor forward Roscoe Smith out of their D-League affiliate in Los Angeles, league sources said."

Smith has been tearing it up for the D-Fenders, averaging 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game on 56.5% field goal shooting. In seven of his 11 games this season, he’s posted a double-double. His highest scoring output came in one of the four non-double-double games when he put up 38 points (to go along with 9 rebounds).
Smith played with the Lakers during training camp and the preseason and was one of the final cuts. Given his play this year and the Lakers’ struggles so far this year, he could be a fresh face to come up and contribute for the Lakers.
Smith’s biggest weakness is his lack of range, shooting just 30.8% from deep on just over one three-point attempt a game. Despite that, he’s certainly as viable an option offensively as Wesley Johnson, who is managing just 8.4 points on 31% three-point shooting this year, hardly a big upgrade from deep.
