Jeremy Lin, Keep Your Head Up

Jeremy Lin is the underdog story of the modern NBA.  We’re talking about a Harvard graduate with NBA talent, but for whatever reason can’t seem to scratch the starting line up for a contending team.

He has the talent to do so.  He just needs to have faith.

Faith, is a big part of Jeremy Lin.  He believes and trusts in God.

Faith in himself, is exactly what Jeremy Lin needs.  We know he has talent.  He’s bigger than most point guards in the NBA.  We know he can run the pick-and-roll with proper spacing, and make excellent decisions with the basketball.  We know he can blow by defenders and shoot the three accurately enough to keep defenders honest.  We know he’s an above average passer, who is likely to be the only guy who throws Wesley Johnson lobs from halfcourt with success.

We know this about Lin.

So, what does Lin need to do?  This is a different kind of test for Jeremy.  After watching his “Linsanity” documentary and answer questions through the media, we know he constantly challenges himself on trying to be better, be perfect.  It’s not a reasonable expectation.

What is reasonable, is stepping onto the floor and laying it all out.  Is that Kobe Bryant challenging you on defense in practice? Is he facing you up? Don’t settle for the jumpshot Jeremy. Attack him. Push off with the left arm.  This is a team practice. Kobe Bryant can take it. He’s trying to pull this aggression out of you.

So attack.

Who cares if you miss?  Who cares if you’re met by a brick wall at the rim?  The point is, you’re trying to get to the rim.  No one should be able to stop you, not even yourself.

If Kobe does it again, just run him over. He’ll respect you for it. It sends a message.

The next time you attack, you’ll have better success.

Jeremy Lin has the talent. He just needs to keep the faith.
