Lakers Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo Trade In Works?
By Jacob Rude
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly one of many teams who have contacted the Boston Celtics in recent days about a possible trade for free agent to-be Rajon Rondo, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.
The interest in Rondo has certainly peaked in the last few days and even the last few hours, with talks heating up between a host of teams , including the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo wrote earlier in the evening that the Celtics are looking for a first round pick and expiring contracts to facilitate a Rondo trade.
"Boston’s asking price for Rondo remains “pretty high, probably higher than most want to pay,” one league official told Yahoo.Trade talks with Rondo have been focused more in the Western Conference than Eastern, sources said.Boston has been consistently shopping forward Jeff Green, trying to acquire a package that includes a first-round draft pick, sources said. Rondo being available would suggest Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is prepared to undergo a deeper rebuilding project and push harder for the highest possible draft position in the 2015 NBA draft."
The Lakers are one of the teams included, obviously, but appear on the outside looking in as of late. With the Houston Rockets’ 2015 first round draft pick in their pocket and a host of big expiring contracts in their pocket, the Lakers have as much ammunition as other teams. What they don’t have is a young player to send along with picks for Boston to build around, if that is what they’re looking for.
