Clutch Moment of the Year – Kobe Bryant‘s Game-Winner Against Pacers

After hearing all the talk about Bryant’s inability to hit clutch shots – albeit warranted criticism brought on due to Bryant’s heavy legs late in games – this moment seemed especially vindictive. With the game on the line, Bryant did what he’s done his whole career by hitting the tough shots in big spots.

For Bryant, juggling between his score-first mentality that has carried him throughout his career with the need to be a facilitator and play-maker on a team lacking one had been a struggle at times. Just two nights prior to this play, Bryant had a similar situation against the Grizzlies. Driving into the lane with a chance to tie the game, Bryant chose instead of forcing up a tough shot to dish to teammate Davis, who was fouled and subsequently missed his second free throw to tie it.

On this night, Bryant’s willingness to pass all game opened up the lane and eventually allowed him an easy shot to win the game. The newer version of Bryant has defenses far more worried as his ability to dish out passes to open teammates can be a true back breaker.
