Kelly has only appeared in 13 games this season, and has had his ups and downs. Sometimes you can’t even tell Kelly is on the court, then at times he looks like a promising stretch four in this league. The problem with Kelly is that he does not really have a position. He got by as a power forward in college simply due to his size, but that has not translated to the NBA. He lacks the strength and toughness to be a power forward, and the speed and quickness to be a small forward.
The Lakers still seem optimistic about the 2013 second round pick out of Duke. Whenever he is healthy, Scott seems to give him a good amount of minutes. Although Kelly is shooting a poor 36% from the floor, his three point percentage of 41.2% is second on the team.
Ryan Kelly has the potential to be solid role player for the Lakers future, but next season will be the make or break season for the former Blue Devil.
