Ellington was supposed to be this season’s Jodie Meeks, but has not quite lived up to those expectations. The main issue is that the shooting guard position was the team’s biggest strength in the first half of the season with Kobe Bryant and Nick Young. Ellington has put together a nice streak, averaging 10.25 points over his last four games.
Ellington’s field goal percentage of 44.7% and three point percentage 41.1% are both impressive. Ellington’s two biggest weaknesses are his average defensive play, and lack of play making abilities. Sure he can shoot, but the North Carolina product struggles at getting his teammates open looks.
With Kobe Bryant out, Ellington will start to see a lot more playing time, and with his contract expiring after this season, will have to show a little more if he wants to remain with the purple and gold.
