After going down against the New York Knicks, Byron Scott confirmed what many Lakers fans assumed in that Jordan Hill will likely be out until after the All-Star game.
Hill suffered a strained hip flexor against the Knicks last Sunday and was ruled out for two weeks. The setback was feared to have an effect on Hill’s trade value more than anything. However, the short-term nature of the recovery and the fact it’ll occur over the All-Star break, minimizing the amount of games Hill would miss, means his value likely won’t take too severe a hit.
On the season, Hill is averaging an impressive 12.3 points and 8.0 rebounds, both career highs. He’s nearly eclipsed his season high mark for points and rebounds in a season just halfway through the year. His high play has led many fans to think he could draw at least one first round pick in a trade or some younger players which could help the Lakers’ rebuilding process.
If not traded, Hill will likely remain the best player left on the Lakers’ roster going forward the rest of the season, leaving the Lakers with a big option this summer as to whether to accept or decline his option for next season, which would see him make $9 million a year.
