For head coach Byron Scott, the idea of tanking is ridiculous. He’s trying to get his players prepared to win games, unfortunately, it hasn’t happened much this season. Today, the Lakers were easily beaten by the Cleveland Cavaliers and Scott was not content with his team’s overall effort. According to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News, Scott called his team soft after the game:
Scott has had a tough first year with the purple and gold and has done a decent job considering the players at his disposal. Scott grew up with this organization, so he wants to turn things around, but his players seem discouraged. Team morale is low, but that’s not excuse for being soft and this could be Scott’s way of lighting a fire in his players. Yes, they have nothing to play for anymore, but they should take pride in their game and give it 110 percent.
The Lakers have the fourth worst record in the NBA at 13-38, but plenty of those losses have been competitive games where the Lakers had a chance to win. They do have some nice pieces and some impressive wins on their resume. They’ve beat the Spurs on the road and the Bulls at home, so it’s not like the Lakers aren’t capable of putting a complete game together.
