It’s never good news these days when we have Lakers injury news and updates, which seems to always signal the end of a player’s season. Today, it was revealed that Ronnie Price would be undergoing surgery on his elbow for a bone spur, late to be found out that it would be season-ending.

Price came into the season as a spurprise inclusion on the roster. Signed originally as insurance for a possible Steve Nash injury, he remained on the roster when that very outcome arose. However, there has been much anger among Laker fans for his inclusion not only in the regular rotation, but in the starting line-up from the get-go of the season. Only when Bryant went down with his season-ending injury and head coach Byron Scott changed line-ups did Price fall out of the regular rotation.
On the year, Price is averaging a career-best 5.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.6 steals a game, all in 22.8 minutes per contest. Even more, the 982 minutes played by Price this year marks 176 more than he had played in any season of his career.
Going forward, this will obviously mean more minutes for Jordan Clarkson and Jeremy Lin, but more importantly for the Lakers’ future, this will likely mean the call-up of a D-League player, something many Lakers fans have been pining for. The most favorable candidate to be called up would be Vander Blue, who is averaging 21.1 points a game with the D-Fenders this year.
