No other team has dealt with more injuries than the Lakers this season. Injuries are a part of the game, but the Lakers have four players that were lost for the season, so the roster is thin. The Lakers don’t have a need for another player, but an extra body never hurts.
According to Eric Pincus of the LA Times, the Lakers will apply for a hardship waiver and if granted, they will be allowed to add another player to the roster:
NBA teams are allowed to have 15 players on the roster, but the Lakers could be looking to add another player just in case it’s needed. The current rotation in place should be able to finish the rest of the season, but with the Lakers luck, it’s likely injuries will continue to play a role.
Nick Young’s season hasn’t ended, but he’s the latest Laker to miss some time because of an injury. His status could be a reason why the Lakers decided to apply for this waiver. The Lakers have a case to have this waiver approved, so adding another player is not farfetched.
It won’t be a high profile acquisition, it’s more likely they sign somebody from the D-League. Hopefully the injury woes are over, the Lakers can’t afford to go another season with multiple season ending injuries.
