Lakers News: Nick Young Could Miss Rest Of The Year

The Lakers came back from the All-Star break and they won three out of their first four games. Since then, they have lost five games in a row and once again things are gloomy in Laker land.

The frustrating part about all these losses have been the way they have finished games. In almost every game during this losing streak, the Lakers have had a chance to win the game, but squander the lead every single time.

The Lakers have been without the services of shooting guard Nick Young, who has been dealing with a knee injury. Unfortunately, the knee has not gotten better and there is still no timetable set for Young’s return. According to Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times, head coach Byron Scott admits that it’s a possibility Young won’t be back this season:

"Young, who is averaging 13.4 points a game, hasn’t played since scoring 19 in a Feb. 22 win over Boston. Scott had hoped Young would be able to test out his sore and swollen knee this week, but before Sunday’s loss to Dallas he was less optimistic, saying that the guard is unlikely to play on the Lakers’ current home stand — and may not return at all.“Could be,” he said. “It just depends on if this thing heals up. But if he can play those last couple of weeks or so, then I’m going to have him play.”"

Young is a potent scorer for the Lakers. He spreads the floor and while some might be tired of his antics, his teammates love him around. He brings energy to a team that has not been successful, but we might have to wait until next year to see him play again.

While he has not been officially ruled out for the rest of the season, coach Scott will monitor his knee’s progress. At this point of the season, Young might be better served by resting his ailing knee. The Lakers have nothing to play for and the Lakers need Young to be ready for next season.
