A loss today, is essentially a victory in regards to the Draft Lottery. Both teams have 17 wins and the Lakers need to stay within the top five to keep their draft pick. If it lands outside the top five, the pick goes to the 76ers, which means this game is even more interesting.
It’s been a tough season for the Lakers, but at the end of the day, it’s just a game. Head coach Byron Scott has had it rough in his rookie coaching season with the Lakers, unfortunately now he has to deal with the pain of losing his mother. According to the Lakers official twitter handle, Scott will miss the next two road games to attend his mother’s funeral:
Scott will still coach tonight against Philadelphia, which is extraordinary considering the situation he is currently dealing with. For some of us, basketball is more than just a sport, but today is a reminder that it is simply just a game.
While most of us would prefer the Lakers lose tonight, it would be a great tribute for Scott to get a win for his mother. The Lakers could lose the rest of the games this season, but the players should win one for their fearless leader who could use any type of positive reinforcement during this difficult moment.
