Report: Jim Buss Fired Following Dispute With Kupchak, Jeanie Buss
By Jacob Rude
It was a long-time coming, Lakers fans, but it seems the end is near. Reports are surfacing today that Vice President of Basketball Operations and long-time scapegoat Jim Buss has been relieved of his duties following a dispute with general manager Mitch Kupchak, one that required Jeanie Buss to get involved.
The alleged dispute was a result of Monday night’s game in Philadelphia, it’s result, and the effect it had on the Lakers’ draft pick come June’s NBA Draft. Kupchak has reportedly been a member of Team Tank for most of this season, but has met much resistance from Buss, who has felt that this is the Lakers and that’s not how they do things.

After Monday’s game where Jordan Clarkson hit a lay-up at the buzzer, Buss stormed into Kupchak’s office to brag on the victory, a move that led to near fisticuffs. Only when president Jeanie Buss stepped in did the fight de-escalate, but the damage was done. Jim Buss is expected to be removed as VP of Basketball Operations of the Lakers and instead given the same job with the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
Meanwhile, the name mentioned as the most likely replacement for Buss is former Lakers center Shaquille O’Neal. Jeanie Buss reportedly wants to “keep it in the family” when hiring Jim’s replacement and the Big Aristotle’s view on the game has always been fantastic.
The Lakers are expected to make the announcement later today, April 1st, also known as April Fools Day. Have a happy April Fool’s Day!
