Lakers News: Jordan Clarkson Talks Tanking

The Lakers will take on the Portland Trail Blazers at the Staples Center tonight. The season is about to wrap up and the Lakers can’t wait for it to be over. After finishing 27-55 last season, it only got worse this year, but they did have one bright spot.

More from Lake Show Life

The Lakers didn’t have a second round pick last season, but they bought the 46th overall selection from the Washington Wizards and selected Jordan Clarkson. The point guard out of Missouri has been the bright spot this season and he has Laker fans excited.

Clarkson joined LA Today with Bill Reiter and Leeann Tweeden on AM 570 this morning and talked about all the tank talk surrounding the team. Clarkson hears it, but he is concerned with competing and winning games:

Clarkson has been responsible for a few Laker victories as of late. He hit the game winning lay-up against the Philadelphia 76ers that could have given the Lakers the third worst record in the NBA. Laker fans were not happy at all, but Clarkson is just doing his job.

In an ideal world, the Lakers would receive the number one overall pick, but realistically they are not as bad as the Knicks, Sixers and Timberwolves.  The Lakers are a proud franchise and at this point we can only hope that the ping pong balls fall our way.

What gets lost in all this tank talk is Clarkson’s impressive showing this season. He is averaging 10.9 points per game this season and should end up on the NBA All-Rookie team. It’s been tough to watch the Lakers lose, but watching Clarkson also gives us hope.
