The Lakers are preparing for life after Kobe Bryant. Yes, I know it’s not easy to think about, but the reality is that Bryant will be entering his 20th season in the league next year and Father Time is yet to be defeated.

What is life after Kobe like? We don’t know, but this franchise is definitely preparing to attract a big name free agent, especially in the Summer of 2016. Many fans are hoping the Lakers will attract Kevin Durant to replace Bryant as the face of the franchise, but they will have plenty of competition for his services.
According to Mychal Thompson of ESPN LA 710, the Warriors will reportedly pursue Durant hard in free agency in 2016:
"“I also heard it on good authority from a team that plays in the Bay Area that they’re going to go hard after Kevin Durant.”"
Thompson also mentioned the Lakers during his radio show, but if both teams are in the mix, you have to like Golden State’s chances. They might be on their way to an NBA title this year, but next year with the salary cap increasing and David Lee’s $15 million coming off the books, they might have enough cap space to compete with the rest of the league.
Why should this matter to the Lakers? The Warriors are already title contenders, the addition of Durant could assure their place in the NBA Finals for years to come. Obviously this is just a rumor and the Summer of 2016 is pretty far away, but it’s definitely something to think about. When the Lakers make a pitch at Kevin Durant, you must have a good roster to convince him he can win a title in Los Angeles.
