Lakers Draft: Mudiay Has Dinner With Lakers Management

In a little less than three weeks, the Los Angeles Lakers will decide who will be the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. That’s plenty of time for the Lakers to do all their homework and decide who will be wearing purple and gold next season.

There is no need to remind you how important this pick is for the Lakers’ future. They have to get this pick right in order to speed up the rebuilding process. If they miss, the lottery could be a familiar place for the Lakers for years to come.

Emmanuel Mudiay is a player the Lakers could consider with the second selection and before he had a chance to work out for the team, Mudiay had dinner with Mitch Kupchak and other members of the basketball operations department. The Lakers tweeted out this picture from their official Twitter account:

It’s important to spend time with these draft prospects in order to fully evaluate them. It’s one thing to see them knock down jumpers, but how they act off the court is also essential to determine whether they are worthy of the second overall selection.

Along with D’Angelo Russell, Mudiay is a possible guard the Lakers should strongly consider over Jahlil Okafor. Don’t get me wrong, Okafor should still be the favorite, but the Lakers must do their due diligence.

History has shown us that going big isn’t always the smartest decision. The Portland Trail Blazers will always regret selecting Sam Bowie over shooting guard Michael Jordan. So don’t be surprised if the Lakers go Russell or Mudiay, they might be special talents that Kupchak can’t pass up.
