Lakers Draft: Team Announces Mystery Predraft Workout
Woohoo speculation!
Bill Oram announced on Twitter the Lakers would hold a mystery workout Saturday featuring… Who knows?
Here’s the tweet, and Bill appears to know how the news might be taken:
Karl-Anthony Towns had originally indicated he would not work out privately for any team, feeling confident enough in his prodigious talent that he would go to the right team without needing to show how those talents would display themselves on the court.

The inherent risk here is that teams drafting so high might not feel comfortable utilizing their top asset of the summer on a player they haven’t seen in person. The risk for Towns is injury during one such workout. For both sides, it’s about gauging the reward versus what might go wrong.
If a team passes up on Towns because he didn’t work out and he lives up to his crazy ceiling, those who passed will feel like complete imbeciles for doing so. Conversely, if a team drafts Towns despite watching others work out and being impressed, only to watch those they actual saw perform at higher levels, well you get it.
At the end of the day, if Towns is finally deciding to work out for the Lakers it might be due at least in part to how impressed the Lakers have reportedly been with Jahlil Okafor.
Of course, all this might be worthless speculation and the Lakers might call me in the next few seconds to offer me a private workout.
Now, if you don’t mind, I have to get into superhuman strength in the next three days.
