Lakers Rumors: LA to Pick up Robert Sacre’s Team Option

After an abysmal 2014-15 campaign, the Lakers are looking to the future and with the number two pick in their pocket, it looks a little brighter. The Lakers will not be the same team that lost 61 games last season. Mitch Kupchak and the Lakers will be very aggressive this off-season in hopes of putting together a team that can win a lot more games.

We will see some familiar faces next season. Jordan Clarkson will be back and Julius Randle will finally get to show what he can do after returning from a broken leg. The Lakers might also be brining back a fan favorite.

According to Shams Charania of Real GM, the Lakers will reportedly pick up the veteran minimum option left in Robert Sacre’s contract:

"The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to pick up center Robert Sacre’s veteran-minimum team option, league sources told RealGM.Sacre — solidifying himself as a viable reserve big man and defensive presence in three NBA seasons — has lost 15 pounds since the end of the Lakers’ season. He is under a guaranteed option at $981,348 for next season, and there’s a chance the Lakers could look into reworking a longer-term deal with the 26-year-old."

Sacre is a big body that provides energy and a good defensive presence in the paint. It won’t cost the Lakers much to bring back Sacre, so this move makes sense. With the Lakers potentially bringing in a rookie big man with the second overall pick, Sacre will be the perfect practice partner to help mold the rookie early on.

The second round draft pick has worked hard to become an NBA player and has been able to stay in the league since leaving Gonzaga in 2012. The Lakers have been a mess of late, but Sacre has been a professional in every aspect. All he does is work hard and allow the rest to take its course.

Get ready fans, we get one more year of Sacre and you have to love it.
