Lakers Draft: Biggest Draft Steals of All Time
Bill Laimbeer: 65th Overall Pick 1979
It’s safe to say that the Pistons got pretty lucky in the draft in their creation of the Bad Boys. Laimbeer was actually drafted by the Cavaliers, but was traded to the Pistons after two seasons. Laimbeer quickly became known for his hard, physical defense, and dominant rebounding. The big man led the league in rebounding in 1986, and won two NBA championships. Like Rodman, Laimbeer made his living off playing hard and aggressive. Although he had a solid outside shot, he wasn’t the most talented player in the world.

There is always room in the NBA for big men who can play defense and rebound the ball. I’d consider a guy a steal when he is drafted in the third round and retires as the franchise leader in rebounds.
