The Cousins’ rumors have gotten some Laker fans excited, other not quite so much. Regardless, the rumors are not going to stop as we approach the NBA Draft. However, there’s another rumor involving the Lakers and another prominent big man.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Lakers are moving up LaMarcus Aldridge’s list of possible destinations:
Before you get too excited, the Spurs are still the favorites to land Aldridge this off-season and that’s assuming he leaves Portland in the first place. If he does leave the Blazers, most believe the All-Star big man will return to his home state of Texas.
The Blazers traded Nicolas Batum, an integral piece for the Blazers for the last few years, but they got an interesting prospect in return. This trade probably means that the Blazers are preparing for life after Aldridge. The Longhorn would fit nicely with the Spurs as Tim Duncan is likely to retire soon. His calm demeanor has Spurs written all over it, but at least his interest in the Lakers is increasing.
The Lakers were initially believed to be a long shot to land Aldridge, so this is definitely a pleasant surprise. After a couple of unsuccessful off-seasons, the Lakers are hopeful they will be major players this Summer.
