In his lone season at Ohio State, Russell was impressive. He averaged 19.3 points and five assists per game. Russell wore the number zero with the Buckeyes and he might be changing his number with the Lakers.
According to Mike Trudell of TWC SportsNet, Russell is considering wearing number one with the Lakers next season:
Russell was a guest on “His and Hers” and was asked why he wore zero at Ohio State. He admitted that he once jokingly said that he chose zero because zero people could guard him. While Russell is confident and does believe nobody can guard him, that was not the real reason he picked that number.
Now, Russell could start fresh with the number one, but he hasn’t made up his mind yet. Jordan Farmar was the latest Laker to wear number one, so it’s up for grabs. No offense to Farmar, who won two championships with the Lakers, but Russell can make it his own.
