The Los Angeles Lakers held three picks going into the NBA Draft. With their first pick (second overall), the Lakers selected D’Angelo Russell. Their next pick was the 27th which was obtained from the Houston Rockets in the Jeremy Lin trade.

After all the excitement of the number two pick settled down, the Lakers had to shift their focus to the 27th selection. Although it was later in the first round, this was a great opportunity for them to add another talented player.
With this pick, the Lakers selected Larry Nance Jr. out of Wyoming:
Nance comes from a basketball family. His dad was a slam dunk champion and a three time All-Star. The Cleveland Cavaliers retired his number and now his son gets to create his own legacy with the Lakers.
The younger Nance played four years at Wyoming and averaged 16.1 points and 7.2 points in his senior season. This was quite a surprising pick for the Lakers. Most expected the Lakers to take R.J. Hunter because he can shoot, or even Kevon Looney, but they went with Nance.
Hopefully Mitch Kupchak knows something we don’t.
