At this point in any draft, it’s about finding at least a rotation player who can provide depth moving forward. Brown may not immediately become the Lakers’ best option at his position, but a competition at training camp could very easily end with him grabbing consistent minutes next season.
Now, all this might be pointless if the Lakers turn around and move him for an additional asset later in the draft, but by many accounts, the bottom of the barrel pretty thin on talent.
The Lakers were especially thin at small forward heading into the draft, so it’s great to see they’re filling needs as it rolls along without having to abandon players with the most talent.
Now, it’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers purchase another late second-rounder like they did last year to acquire Jordan Clarkson.
