It’s draft day, which means there will be an abundance of rumors and reports all over the place. Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report got off to an early start. Ding believes the Lakers will surprise everyone and choose D’Angelo Russell out of Ohio State with the second pick.

Ding believes the Lakers will take that route because Okafor reportedly had a disappointing second workout with the team. Ding also mentions that Russell is simply a special player and has similar traits to Stephen Curry, the current NBA MVP.

Ding’s report got everyone riled up, but a writer who covers the Sixers believes the Lakers have other motives. According to Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated, the Lakers have been set on taking Okafor and all the Russell rumors were created to entice the Sixers to move up in the draft:

Interesting report from Fischer. Ding’s report this morning made it seem like the Lakers were leaning in Russell’s direction, but Fischer believes that those rumors are simply to get the Sixers to move up to the number two slot.

Fischer reports that the Lakers made up their mind when Okafor came in for his second workout, but Ding had a completely different report. No offense to Fischer, but Ding is one of the most respectable writers in the country and you have to take his word for it, especially since he covers the team on a consistent basis.

The reports are not out of the ordinary and it will not be the last as we approach the draft. Stay tuned to Lake Show Life for all the news and rumors surrounding the Lakers.
